Using Flea Bombs To Fumigate Your Home
I don’t think there are many more things in this life that are more annoying than fleas. We used to live in a wetter climate and when we did it seemed like our dogs always had fleas. We were always struggling with flea problems with our dogs until we learned about flea bombs. Using a flea bomb PROPERLY can rid your house of unwanted fleas and help prevent another infestation.
There are some things you should know about flea bombs before you go out and buy one. First, you want to make sure that the flea bomb that you purchase has what is called an “adulticide” in it. This is basically a chemical that is designed to kill the adult fleas in your home. Many flea bombs only prevent living fleas from reproducing and thereby breaking the life cycle. It’s important that the flea bomb that you purchase has this chemical in it to prevent future breeding but you also want to make sure it contains a chemical to kill the living fleas.
After you have found the right flea bomb to purchase, it’s important that you prep your house so that you can get the most effective results from it. Before you bomb your house, it’s a good idea to remove any dishes that are in your cupboards. It would be really bad to eat off of dishes that had flea bomb residue on them. If you choose not to take this precaution, at least tape your cupboards shut and wash all of your dishes before using them again.
If possible, it’s a good idea to move your furniture onto non-carpeted areas like linoleum or a tile floor This will enable the chemical from the flea bomb to penetrate into the carpeted areas that would normally be covered by beds, couches, and chairs.
You also want to make sure that you have all of your pets out of the house when you do the actual flea bombing. This includes pets like turtles, fish, and birds. These types of pets are often forgotten when people fumigate their house with a flea bomb. If you don’t remove these types of pets from your home, the insecticide could possibly kill them. At the very least, it will make them very sick.
When you’re ready to begin the fumigation, it’s important to make sure that everyone is out of the house and can remain out of the house for the recommended amount of time that is listed on the flea bomb label. You don’t want to go running back in the house because you forgot your purse or car keys once the fumigation has started. This is very important because the chemical should not be breathed by humans.
When you activate the flea bombs, leave the house immediately and do not return until the recommended period of time. It’s a good idea to use this time to take your pets to the groomer for a thorough flea bath. It wouldn’t make much sense to fumigate your house and then have your dogs or cats carry fleas right back into it.
It’s also a good idea to use this time to spray a chemical pesticide on your grass that will kill the fleas. By treating your grass, your pets, and your house, you will have covered all of the major areas where fleas can hide. If you skip any of these steps then it will only be a matter of time before your house is overrun with fleas again.
When you do go back inside your house, open all of the windows and turn some fans on to ventilate the house. It’s a good idea to wash your bedding before sleeping in it as well. Another good idea is to thoroughly wash you children’s toys before letting your kids play with them again. Lastly, I would suggest that you wash all of your family’s clothing before wearing any of the items again.
